We did a prerecorded show with Dr Marcin Slaski in Dec 2017, a physicist with Masters in Nuclear physics and years of post doc research which took him across the world! He also has over 20 years experience in teaching in the UKs top schools. Dr Slaski is my inspiration into Physics, hence why he needed to be in the very first show - without him I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing! Listen into his life's journey and how our paths crossed!
The recording aired on Thursday 4th January 3pm on 93.5 Unity FM.
This is what domains in a magnet look like - basically the atoms act like tiny magnets! Sometimes instead of drawing tiny bar magnets, little arrows are drawn instead.
At GCSE level students are taught that for a magnet, the domains are all aligned and non-magnetic materials have a random arrangement. When we magnetise an iron nail (see below), the tiny domains align!
Dr Slaski did a Special Lecture on Liquid Nitrogen in November which was well received by the very fascinated (and lucky!) home educated students. To find out about the workshops and future Lab Days we run, please visit www.femtinos.com
This video shows you how you magnetise an iron nail! One to try at home!
Science with Syd is the radio show hosted by the one and only Syd!
